Twenty-One Basics – Part One

The basic concept of the game is to be given cards adding up to twenty-one. Every twenty-one player is handed two cards. When a blackjack player is dealt a 9 or lower value card and an Ace they’ve been handed a soft hand. When the black jack player is dealt no Ace it is called as a hard hand. As soon as the cards have been handed to every player at the blackjack table, including the dealer, each black jack player is given the opportunity to make one of six actions:

Taking another card (Hit): When a player announces "hit" the dealer will deal him another card, if the adding of that card makes the total greater than twenty one the black jack player will have busted and be excluded from the game, if the card pushes the value of the hand to twenty one the player is the winner and if the value of the hand has not yet achieved twenty one they’re still in the game.

Keeping the hand you’ve been dealt: If a black jack player is satisfied with the cards they will stay. Once this has happened the croupier will disclose his/her cards and the player who has accumulated twenty one or the nearest to 21 will win.

Doubling Down: A player might request to double down which increases the bet by 100% they have laid. As soon as you’ve taken this action you can only be given one additional card. The details of doubling down are normally specified by the blackjack table or casino game rules so before betting make certain you’re at ease with the casino game rules. If you’re playing at a web-based betting house this is usually quite easy.
